Skylight for the “Dostizhenie” Residential Complex

As part of the courtyard landscaping for the “Dostizhenie” residential complex, the BARKA team implemented an uncommon and technically demanding element — a skylight made of architectural concrete. It does not draw attention immediately, yet it becomes a true art object, notable both architecturally and structurally.

Light From Above: A Story in Details

Skylights first appeared during the industrial era. They were installed on the roofs of factories, train stations, workshops, and greenhouses to illuminate large interior spaces with natural light and reduce energy consumption. Later, skylights became common in museums, galleries, and private architecture, valued for their even daylight distribution, expressive form, and visual clarity.

In modern landscape design for residential complexes, a skylight remains a rare solution — especially in this form: embedded into the terrain rather than placed on a roof.

How It Is Implemented in “Dostizhenie”

The skylight is located in a relaxation zone, integrated into an artificial elevation that hosts loungers and a small podium. It is installed at an angle and can easily be perceived as a sculptural object or part of the landscape composition. Yet beneath it lies a functional interior space that receives daylight through the skylight. This is not a decorative structure — it is a fully operational architectural element manufactured by BARKA.

Technical Specifications

  • Type: skylight integrated into landscape design
  • Material: cast high-performance architectural concrete
  • Diameter: just under 3 meters
  • Features: complex custom geometry, high precision of joints, angled installation

Thanks to the material’s structural characteristics and the accuracy of the formwork, the skylight works as a seamless part of the environment. It does not visually dominate the courtyard, yet it fits the architectural logic perfectly.
